FIND SOME GOLD IN SAVANNA'S BANKS
From his first 1927 radio broadcasts, the velvety sounds of Wayne King's "Golden Saxophone" brought The
Waltz King's "Incomparable Music of Romance" into the lives of dancing lovers who absorbed his warm melodies
into their souls.
The "Golden Saxophone," on loan from Mrs. Dorothy King, wife of the Waltz King, is part of a rotating
exhibition between The First Savanna Savings Bank, The Savanna-Thomson State Bank and THE National Bank in Savanna through
Savanna Celebrates Grand Excursion 2004. Wayne King played a season (circa 1922) on Mississippi excursion boats following
his sophomore year at Valparaisio University.
Before he became the "Waltz King," Wayne was employed by Clinton Bank and Trust Company in 1920, 18 miles down the
Mississippi River from Savanna.
New in 2004, THE WAYNE KING WALTZ: At the request
of the Steve Stevens Orchestra Project, Ed Bolton, Wayne King's last male vocalist/arranger has composed a new waltz
in memory of the Waltz King. The world famous Jack Morgan and the Russ Morgan Orchestra are collaborating with
Ed Bolton to debut The Wayne King Waltz on June 25 at Buck's Barn (Lynnwood Lynx & Lodge) on Route 84 between Savanna
and Thomson, Illinois
